Requirements of Membership

Applicants must be 18 and a resident of West Virginia.

When to Apply

Applications are accepted 4 times a year:

  • January 13th

  • April 13th

  • July 13th

  • October 12th

What and What Not To Submit

Applicants must submit images of five original art or craft pieces in JPG or PNG format via email, CD or USB flash drive. Art submitted must be wired and gallery ready so please include images of the backs of your art pieces.

Submissions considered to be unacceptable:

  • Copies made from other artwork or from published photographs are not acceptable submissions. However, you may work from photographs that you have taken.

  • Work done in workshops under the supervision of an instructor is not acceptable.

Application Fee

A payment of $30 and a completed application are required with your submission.

Notifications of Acceptance or Rejection

Applicants will be notified in writing within two weeks if membership is accepted or denied. If membership is denied, money will be refunded. CDs and USB flash drives will not be returned.

AAWV membership not only offers you a chance to connect with fellow artists but also provides numerous opportunities for your personal growth and artistic development. Benefits include workshops, expert lectures, social events, and exhibition opportunities.

We sponsor a juried exhibition every other year which has been held at locations such as the Parkersburg Art Center, Clay Center in Charleston, and Huntington Museum of Art. As a member, you will be invited to show with Allied Artists of West Virginia. 

Members are also invited to submit photos of their work, bio, artist statement, and any other relevant information to be displayed on this website on your own artist page. This is great way to create backlinks to your main website!

Each member receives a monthly newsletter and other notices via email containing art show opportunities, award announcements and other items of interest.

Workshops are held at least once a year.


We hold meetings in March, April, and have a picnic in May. Then because Summer is so busy for most members, we don't have meetings again until September, continuing in October, November and topping off the year with a Christmas party in December. No meetings are held in the winter months of January and February.

Applications for membership are accepted during quarterly jury sessions only: January 13, April 13, July 13 and October 12. To apply, download the membership application, print it and fill it out. Bring the completed application, a check for $30 (no cash), and 5 pieces of finished work to the jury session.

We will also accept digital images on a CD or USB flash drive (aka memory stick or thumb drive) from applicants. Digital entry is limited to those applicants who live more than 60 miles from Charleston, or those who have art work that is excessively heavy or too large to transport. Digital entry images must be either JPG or PNG files and must show applicable artwork framed as presented for exhibit.

Applying Remotely

Mail a CD or USB flash drive containing your digital images (5 pieces only) of finished work along with the completed application and a check for $30.00.  The CD or flash drive will not be returned.

The application should be sent to  New Member Jury Chair, Newman Jackson. The digital images and completed application must be received at least a week before the date of the current jury session. Please do not send remote applications at times other than January, April, July and October.


If you prefer to pay by check, you may mail it to Treasurer, Howard Rogers. Please include your completed application and CD or USB flash drive if applying remotely.

Our fiscal year begins in January so January 1st is when dues should be paid for the upcoming year. EXAMPLE: dues paid on January 1, 2024 is for the year 2024.

Annual dues are $30.00 with two options to pay.
