New members are invited to bring an artwork or 2 to share, and old members are encouraged to bring 1-2 pieces that are new, especially those who attended the recent abstract class. We would love to see what you made and what you learned!

Daily practicing your art, whether it be painting, making pottery, taking photos, working with cloth, turning wood, or using any other media, is ideal. However, I find that many other ‘good’ things vie for my attention, and I’m very easily distracted. I’ve been told by my family to deliberately set aside time to paint. I make an appointment with myself and I keep it!
I’ve learned to set reasonable times and not say things like, “I’ll paint all day on Tuesday,” when I know that won’t happen. What works for me is to work in blocks of 1 hour, and I set a timer. During that time, I only work on art, sometimes making progress on several pieces and not just one. Your schedule will be different from mine, but I encourage you to take time to practice your art often. If you do, you will see improvement in your art!

Our 2024 AAWV Watercolor Class wrapped up on August 30th. This year’s class was taught by fellow AAWV member Rita Montrosse. She shared methods and techniques for making our own abstract drawings and developing those into three individual paintings. Fourteen students went home with good memories of an amazing class by an accomplished West Virginia artist. If you have not taken a class from Rita, you are missing out! Thanks to Jerre Watkins, Workshop Chairman, and everyone who helped make this class a success!
