The October AAWV meeting is scheduled for 6pm, Thursday, Oct 23, at the Dunbar Public Library, 301 12th St, Dunbar, WV 25064. We are asking everyone to bring some of your new artwork to show and discuss at the October meeting. It’s always fun to see what our friends are creating!
Thanks to Lisa Harrison, who presented our September meeting program. Lisa shared a delightful story about how she got started in art by doing a rooster painting, which her mother had requested. This was the beginning of her 16 year art career, which now includes working with acrylics, pastels, watercolors, colored pencils, and oil pastels, as well as wood burning. The addition of wood burning gives an interesting element to her painted hats. She brought several hats and caps to display, and she demonstrated wood burning for us! Lisa was very willing to share information, answer our questions, and explain her process. It was a great demonstration, enjoyed by all! AAWV CHRISTMAS DINNER: Thurs, Dec 18th, 6pm. Cross Lanes United Methodist Church, 5320 Frontier Dr, Charleston, WV 25313. It will be a covered dish event with AAWV providing ham. We will continue our tradition of bringing NEW art supplies to be taken to the Hovah Hall Underwood Children’s Home in Ona, WV. We’ve done this the past 2 years, and our gifts of art making supplies have been gratefully accepted.
The opening reception for our next AAWV exhibit has been confirmed for Sept 18, 2026 from 5pm - 7pm at the Parkersburg Art Center. Your artwork must be made in the last 2 years, and must have never been exhibited at Parkersburg Art Center. We want to remind everyone well in advance, so you will be ready!
ENCOURAGING WORDS FROM PATTY STEWART: What do you think is the best part of being a member of AAWV? If I were asked that question, I’d definitely say that it’s the community of artists. Last night after our meeting, I was thinking about all of you and how you engaged our speaker, Lisa Harrison, peppering her with questions, watching her intently, but I especially loved watching you divide out in smaller groups after the presentation, talking about your art and just sharing life together. I feel privileged to be part of such a giving, caring group and always look forward to seeing you at our meetings! ~ Patty
