AAWV CHRISTMAS DINNER: Thurs, Dec 18th, 6pm. Cross Lanes United Methodist Church, 5320 Frontier Dr, Charleston, WV 25313. It will be a covered dish event with AAWV providing ham. We will continue our tradition of bringing NEW art supplies to be taken to the Hovah Hall Underwood Children’s Home in Ona, WV. We’ve done this the past 2 years, and our gifts of art making supplies have been gratefully accepted.
The opening reception for our next AAWV exhibit has been confirmed for Sept 18, 2026 from 5pm - 7pm at Parkersburg Art Center. Your artwork must have been completed in the last 3 years, and must have never been exhibited at Parkersburg Art Center.
We are reminding everyone well in advance, so you will be ready!
The countdown to get new artwork made for the show is 8 months!
ENCOURAGING WORDS FROM PATTY STEWART: When you go to a museum or an art show and you see an accomplished piece of art, remind yourself that you can’t see all of the trials the artist went through to get to that point, and believe me, there were not only trials, but failures, too. None of us is born an expert. We all had friends, family and teachers encouraging us. Some of us have longer paths than others, but we all had to pick up an art tool of some kind for the first time and begin. Perhaps this is your time to either start or reboot!

AAWV NEW MEMBERSHIP: Our next new Member Jury session will be held January 10th. The sessions are held quarterly and are done digitally. Applicants will send photos of 5 of their artworks, both front and back (to show they are wired), along with the application form and payment, either by check or Paypal on the AAWV website. • CARNEGIE HALL WV EXHIBIT: Opening Reception: Friday, Nov 7, 5:30pm - 7pm. AAWV members Debbie Kalt Sisson and Stephen Sisson will showcase their artwork in the Old Stone Room. Debbie’s artwork, often in acrylic and watercolor, reflects her love of nature and architectural detail, and also portraits. Steve’s artistic portfolio focuses on historic buildings, figures, plein air painting, and urban sketching. The Lobby Gallery will feature watercolor artist, Lucinda Rose, whose brushwork evokes a sense of time and place rooted in the native flora and fauna of the region. The Museum Gallery will host “Our American Neighbors,” a collaborative exhibit uniting Appalachian and Hispanic cultures through shared themes of place, identity, and tradition.
