Growing up in northern Minnesota, Melanie was surrounded by abundant nature and a family of artists, who nurtured her early passion for painting and photography.
Her images often evoke a dreamlike and surreal quality, reflecting the wonder she feels in nature. Through her art, she invites viewers to immerse themselves in the magic of these moments, aiming to inspire a deeper connection to the world. She believes that art can spark creativity and wonder, illuminating even life's darkest corners. By sharing awe-inspiring scenes, she hopes to encourage others to find their own sources of beauty, peace and inspiration.
Melanie is a full time artist residing in West Virginia, where abundant natural beauty serves as the perfect canvas for her paintings and photography. She maintains an active gallery show schedule and her works have been displayed at galleries and museums including the WV State Culture Center Museum, David L. Dickirson Fine Arts Gallery and Bloomfield Richwood.
Artistic Statement
I am a multidisciplinary artist creating surreal and dreamlike images in both acrylic and photography mediums. My inspirations are nature, memories of places I’ve visited, my dreams and the fairy tales of my childhood. My goal is to invite viewers into a world of wonder and possibility. I paint from my imagination, dreams and memories using graceful forms and carefully curated color harmonies. I purposely do not use reference photos. Instead, I prefer to enter into a 'flow state' allowing the images in my mind to emerge onto my canvas. In contrast, my photography focuses on nature scenes with a painterly feel. No AI is used. My work seeks to highlight the extraordinary hidden within the ordinary, inviting the viewer into a world of wonder and possibility; encouraging reflection, dreaming, and a deeper connection with one's inner world and our place in nature.
